Partials
I don't have exact details on who gets what at Tech except to say that the coaches manage it well and the numbers do change from year to year. So if a kid comes in at 1/3, but really develops, maybe he gets a bit more. The opposite is true too. I know of one top 100 recruit that came to Tech with the tiniest amount of personal baggage (that wouldn't even register on the football trouble-meter), and he received bare minimum - like just enough to pay for books. If he behaved and showed his value during his redshirt year, they would up the amount. It's amazing how little $$$ is there for the sport.
Many top tier guys on our team take a lot less than they could get elsewhere because they understand the problem, can afford to pay some on their own, and know that others may need it more. It's pretty amazing how mature and committed they are.
The grey shirt concept helps with an in-state kid. He can spend a year at New River, paying for it himself, taking as many or as few courses as possible, and it is very cheap ... especially in-state rates.
You said how sad it is that the #40 football player is getting a full ride while top tier wrestlers struggle to get a percentage. Put the #300 football player in that example and its the same. To quote POTUS: Sad.
